Explore Disc Golf at Giles Run at Laurel Hill Park

December 27, 2024. Lorton, Virginia

We spent the day playing disc golf at Giles Run Park in Lorton, Virginia. We picked up the sport a couple of years ago and have found ample course availability throughout the United States. This is an excellent game for the budget-conscious traveler. With just a couple of discs to buy—which easily pack flat in your carry-on—it’s perfect for those who value light travel in terms of weight, space, and budget.

Disc golf is mostly free at municipal parks, though we’ve encountered a few courses that require a minimal entry fee, usually between $2 and $5. It’s a great way to get in our daily walk or hike while enjoying the local scenery. Be prepared to hike if you’re playing a disc golf course in mountainous terrain!

The Giles Run Disc Golf Course is well-maintained and offers a variety of tee boxes and hole combinations to suit different skill levels. Disc golf is also a fantastic way to meet locals, who are often friendly and eager to recommend places to eat or grab a drink after a round.
