Ushuaia: The Southernmost City and Antarctic Launchpad

January 10, 2025. Ushuaia, Argentina

We are one step closer to Antarctica. Early in the morning, we completed our transit through the Straits of Magellan and proceeded east on the Beagle Channel to arrive at the town of Ushuaia, Argentina. This is the last stop before departing on our Antarctic exploration. Ushuaia makes the official claim to being the southernmost city in the world and proudly displays “#endoftheworld” in every street corner. We took a walk around the city and boarded a tour boat that took us on an exploration of the beautiful Beagle Channel and the nearby islands. It was a wonderful experience to see the ragged peaks of the Argentinian mountains on one side and the more subtle mountain tops on the Chilean side. The town of Ushuaia is bustling with activity as passengers depart for Antarctica. We recommend spending a few days exploring Ushuaia and the nearby trails and mountains.
