Experience Southern Worship at Beach Church, Myrtle Beach

April 13, 2025. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

We worshipped today at Beach Church in Myrtle Beach. It was a chilly morning as we walked from the car to the building, but we were warmly greeted by the volunteers who made us feel at home. The church building is large, a theater with a very big stage. We sat at the top, an area where the sermon was instantaneously captioned in Spanish on a large screen, something we had not seen before. The rapid growth we see all around Myrtle Beach, with thousands of homes under construction, is obviously bringing people to the area and to the church; there were easily 1,500 in attendance.

The service, delivered by Pastor Marty Parker, was based on Luke 23:36-56, the account of Jesus’ crucifixion. Parker highlighted the importance of our Lord’s sacrifice, not just in His death on the cross, but also in the pain and humiliation He endured in the days prior. The service included a child dedication, which is important to the faith, where a family dedicated their child to God’s service. We also partook in communion, something we crave as we travel. We thoroughly enjoyed the service and worshipping with our brothers and sisters in South Carolina. The worship songs, familiar to us, had a special Southern twang delivered by Jarrett Hucks, the worship leader. This made the worship music particularly special and memorable.
