Indigo Creek and Finding Affordable Golf Clubs in Myrtle Beach: My Journey with Kenny Hybrids Begins

April 15, 2025. Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

I have needed new irons for a while now; in fact, I could use new irons, new woods, and a golf bag. However, as a nomad traveler, my first priority is travel, and everything else comes second. With the exception of Starlink, Ozempic, and Artificial Intelligence, nothing has seen more technological advances than golf equipment. This progress has been so rapid that even a set a couple of years old would far surpass my old clubs. So, I did the sensible thing and logged onto Facebook Marketplace. There I found Kenny, my new and true-to-real-life friend (not the Meta world).

Kenny had a very nice set of woods, irons, and a bag for $690. The price was high but fair for the clubs and their condition. Once with Kenny, I simply could not bring myself to pull the trigger. Kenny was patient, and he went into the back of his garage, emerging with three beautiful, mint-condition hybrids. Although they wouldn’t completely fulfill my game needs, they would certainly fill the 170 to 200-yard gap. He graciously let me have them for $100. I said I would need to get the cash, and he trustingly said, “I will leave them by the door; put the money under the front doormat.” Got to love that Southern trust!

We headed off to Indigo Creek Golf Club with my three new (to me) clubs. Located just minutes south of Myrtle Beach, Indigo Creek Golf Club is nestled in the heart of the South Carolina Lowcountry. The experience is unique; the course winds through the flowing creeks and giant oaks found along the back nine. This beautiful Willard Byrd design displays well-maintained Sunday Bermuda greens and Bermuda tees, fairways, and roughs. Surrounded by abundant water and wildlife, the experience at Indigo Creek will be one we treasure for a while. It is a difficult course and requires attention to the water hazards. The greens are well-maintained, fast, and true.

The course is not as secluded as others in the area, with beautiful homes lining some of the fairways. You will traverse several neighborhood roads as you move through the course. Indigo Creek offers a unique experience that every golfer, regardless of their skill level, should enjoy. And if you’re wondering, yes, I did hit Kenny’s Hybrids (this will forever be their name), and I hit them well!
