April 22, 2025. Triangle, Virginia.
Today we returned to Forest Greens Golf Club in Triangle, Virginia. This course continues to offer peaceful surroundings, excellent greens, and great company. Today we played with Tony and JiU—both Korean Americans and both excellent golfers.
Tony, after telling me he was 72 years old, invited me to play from the blue tees. How do you say to a 72-year-old man that the blue tees are too far for you? I happily accepted the challenge. Although it was more difficult, I managed to record the same score I had from the white tees just twenty-one days ago.
Tony mentioned he had taught JiU to play golf many years ago, and JiU has since become a very accomplished player. It was refreshing to hear them chatting back and forth in Korean. I could see that JiU, now the better player, was offering Tony swing tips—all in Korean.
Barbara played incredibly well today, recording her best score ever: 110. She’ll soon be breaking 100, and she’s now regularly beating me when factoring in handicaps. She thoroughly enjoyed the day, basking in the mild sun and perfect 75-degree weather. She even had her fix of nature when a wild turkey wandered close by, seemingly curious about her nearly perfect golf swing.
Forest Greens Golf Club continues to be a Northern Virginia favorite for us. We can’t wait to return!
