Four Itchy Feet

May 28, 2025. Shorewood, Minnesota. Day 7 of 170

One of the sweetest times on a long trip is meeting up with old friends. We have planned to visit Doug and Devry several times, and always something comes up, but not this time. We arrived at Doug and Devry’s by 5:00 PM with five years’ worth of travel experiences to share and an appetite.

Doug prepared a wonderful dinner while the kids played and we chatted with Devry. We spoke of our crazy nomadic adventures while they shared their no less adventurous tales of rearing Charlie and Seanna. While we were catching up, a game of knee hockey was happening in the basement, Seanna and Lucas ziplined across the backyard, and Charlie took Kaden on a neighborhood bike ride. We moved our conversations to the living room, but it was quickly 9:30 PM on a school night. We truly enjoyed the intimacy and authentic sharing we had with Doug and Devry, making this a wonderfully memorable visit.

We are always hesitant to disrupt families’ daily life with impromptu visits, but the time we spent with Doug and family was truly enjoyable and worth the detour. We pray our travels will bring us together again soon.
