June 12, 2025. Sandpoint, Idaho. Day 22 of 170
We are settling in nicely in Sandpoint, Idaho. We have managed to put together an agenda that includes swimming, hiking, exploring an art festival, and walking around town for the next few days.
Today, we decided to hike the Gold Hill Trail. It is an impeccably maintained 7.8-mile trail with 1,657 feet of elevation change. The trail is a constant ascent to the top, where you’re rewarded with two incredible viewpoints of Lake Pend Oreille, the largest lake in Idaho. From the top, we had a full panoramic view of Sandpoint, with its prominent beach park on the lake and the famous Cedar Street Bridge.
The weather conditions for the hike were perfect, and we met local hikers who offered great suggestions for things to do around town and other trails to explore. The highlight of our hike was a pair of large Bald Eagles circling overhead as we had our lunch at the viewpoint. We are looking forward to our stay and all the activities Sandpoint has to offer.
