August 7, 2025. Tokyo, Japan. Day 1
We departed Seattle late afternoon and arrived at Haneda Airport in Tokyo early the next evening. ANA Airlines was excellent; our economy-class seats were large and had plenty of legroom. The food was also excellent. For dinner, we were served four small salads with a variety of flavors and honey chicken and rice, accompanied by our beverage of choice. Tea was served several times throughout the flight, and breakfast included a ham sandwich, fruits, and yogurt with orange juice and tea.
Our anxiety about arriving in Tokyo quickly dissipated. Our bags were already waiting at the carousel, and the customs and immigration process was quick and courteous. Now, it was time to tackle the train to downtown Tokyo, which also went very well. We only had to change trains once, which was very easy. We got a little lost during the transfer, but we showed the Google instructions to an attendant who pointed us in the right direction.
Arriving in Tokyo Station can be intimidating—it’s very big! If you choose the wrong exit, you can be blocks away from your destination and have to walk all the way back through the station. With some extra walking, we eventually found our destination: the Hotel Metropolitan Tokyo Marunouchi. We quickly settled in to rest and adjust to the new time. Our travel to Tokyo could not have gone any better!
