Our Visit to the Mount Fuji Heritage Center.

August 16, 2025. Shimizu, Japan.

If you want to learn all that is Mount Fuji, this is the place to visit. We arrived in Shimizu early morning and boarded a train for Fuji, then transferred to another for Fujinomiya City, home to this wonderful museum.

The museum is only 300 Yen to enter and offers an incredible experience. When you walk in, you walk up a ramp for five stories spiraling to the top as if hiking up the mountain. At the top, on the observation terrace you encounter a majestic view of the mountain. Today she hid her beauty mostly behind rain clouds.

On the way down you enter specific exhibits. They include geological maps, surveys and history. Mystical and faith stories about the mountain. There was a special area dedicated to art inspired by the mountain. There is also an awe inspiring video which gives you views of the mountain from every angle, including space!

After our visit we walked over to Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine, a very large shrine built over a thousand years ago to seek Devine protection from eruptions.

We sat around and enjoyed the peace in the shrine garden before returning to Shimizu.
