A Thrilling Night at Lumen Field: Sounders vs. Rapids

Today, we made our way to Lumen Field in downtown Seattle to watch their beloved Sounders take on the Colorado Rapids. We don’t usually attend professional sporting events, but this was a unique opportunity to soak in the city’s atmosphere while enjoying a soccer game.

We had an amazing time! The atmosphere at the game was exciting yet not overwhelming with rowdy fans. It was great to see families everywhere enjoying the game, and everyone, from the stadium staff to the fans, was courteous and friendly.

The game itself offered everything you could expect from a professional soccer match – and then some! The Sounders started strong, rocketing to a commanding three-goal lead. It looked like they were running away with it, but the Rapids never gave up. They mounted a relentless attack, and when the Sounders conceded two penalties inside the box, the Rapids coolly converted both spot kicks. We had “front row” seats (almost!) to witness those crucial penalty shots.

The Rapids kept pressing, and with only about 10 minutes left on the clock, they found the equalizer! What a turnaround! We were truly witnessing history, as the Seattle Sounders had never before failed to win a game after holding a three-goal lead. The referee added a whopping 10 minutes of stoppage time to the second half – we were certainly getting our money’s worth! In the end, this incredibly exciting game finished in a thrilling 3-3 tie.

We had a great time at the game and would certainly recommend it if you’re visiting Seattle. We snagged some very good tickets from StubHub for only $23, though the $37 parking pass we bought from them was not delivered until the next morning. StubHub refused to refund the parking fee even after acknowledging their failure to deliver the parking pass on time. Our tip: buy tickets from StubHub, but sort out your own parking. There’s plenty of parking near the stadium for $25 or less.
