July 25, 2025. Tacoma, Washington. Day 65 of 170
Today was our last hike with the boys as they head back East tomorrow, bringing this phase of our trip to an end. We decided on one last hike: the Twin Falls Trail at Olallie State Park. The trailhead is just 45 minutes east of Seattle, offers large parking areas, and has restroom facilities. There is a daily fee of $10 unless you hold a yearly pass. We recommend securing the yearly pass for $30 the moment you set foot in Washington State; you will get your money’s worth if you like the outdoors as much as we do.
The Twin Falls trail runs parallel to the river as it climbs. There are several pools that allow for swimming; we even saw children diving off a rock into one of them. This 2.4-mile roundtrip with 500 feet of elevation gain is doable by just about anyone. At the top, you have incredible views of the falls from a well-kept boardwalk and bridge.
Upon our return from the top, we decided to linger by the river for a while. I took my obligatory nature nap, and only one of us, the youngest, was brave enough to go swimming. Twin Falls is quintessential Washington State wilderness, with lush green forests, large trees, and water running nearby. Do not miss this hike when visiting the Seattle or Tacoma area.
